Juan 12

And they made a dinner for him there. And Martha was ministering. And truly, Lazarus was one of those who were sitting at table with him.3Entonces María tomó una libra de ungüento de nardo puro de gran precio ungió con él los pies de Jesús y los enjugó con sus cabellos, y el olor del ungüento llenó toda la casa. And then Mary took twelve ounces of pure spikenard ointment, very precious, and she anointed the feet of Jesus, and she wiped his feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the ointment.4Judas el Iscariote, uno de sus discípulos, el que había de entregarlo, dijo: Then one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, who was soon to betray him, said,5“¿Por qué no se vendió este ungüento en trescientos denarios, y se dio para los pobres?” “Why was this ointment not sold for three hundred denarii and given to the needy?”6No dijo esto porque se cuidase de los pobres, sino porque era ladrón; y como él tenía la bolsa, sustraía lo que se echaba en ella. Now he said this, not out of concern for the needy, but because he was a thief and, since he held the purse, he used to carry what was put into it.7Mas Jesús dijo: “Déjala, que para el día de mi sepultura lo guardaba. But Jesus said: “Permit her, so that she may keep it against the day of my burial.8Porque a los pobres los tenéis siempre con vosotros, mas a Mí no siempre me tenéis”. For the poor, you have with you always. But me, you do always not have.”9Entre tanto una gran multitud de judíos supieron que Él estaba allí, y vinieron, no por Jesús solo, sino también para ver a Lázaro, a quien Él había resucitado de entre los muertos. Now a great multitude of the Jews knew that he was in that place, and so they came, not so much because of Jesus, but so that they might see Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead.10Entonces los sumos sacerdotes tomaron la resolución de matar también a Lázaro, And the leaders of the priests planned to put Lazarus to death also.11porque muchos judíos, a causa de él, se alejaban y creían en Jesús. For many of the Jews, because of him, were going away and were believing in Jesus.12Al día siguiente, la gran muchedumbre de los que habían venido a la fiesta, enterados de que Jesús venía a Jerusalén, Then, on the next day, the great crowd that had come to the feast day, when they had heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,13tomaron ramas de palmeras, y salieron a su encuentro; y clamaban: “¡Hosanna! ¡Bendito sea el que viene en nombre del Señor y el rey de Israel!” took branches of palm trees, and they went ahead to meet him. And they were crying out: “Hosanna! Blessed is he who arrives in the name of the Lord, the king of Israel!”14Y Jesús hallando un pollino, montó sobre él, según está escrito: And Jesus found a small donkey, and he sat upon it, just as it is written:15“No temas, hija de Sión, he aquí que tu rey viene, montado sobre un asnillo”. “Do not be afraid, daughter of Zion. Behold, your king arrives, sitting on the colt of a donkey.”16Esto no entendieron sus discípulos al principio; mas cuando Jesús fue glorificado, se acordaron de que esto había sido escrito de Él, y que era lo que habían hecho con Él. At first, his disciples did not realize these things. But when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things were written about him, and that these things happened to him.17Entre tanto el gentío que estaba con Él cuando llamó a Lázaro de la tumba y lo resucitó de entre los muertos, daba testimonio de ello. And so the crowd that had been with him, when he called Lazarus from the tomb and raised him from the dead, offered testimony.18Y por eso la multitud le salió al encuentro, porque habían oído que Él había hecho este milagro. Because of this, too, the crowd went out to meet him. For they heard that he had accomplished this sign.19Entonces los fariseos se dijeron unos a otros: “Bien veis que no adelantáis nada. Mirad cómo todo el mundo se va tras Él”. Therefore, the Pharisees said among themselves: “Do you see that we are accomplishing nothing? Behold, the entire world has gone after him.”20Entre los que subían para adorar en la fiesta, había algunos griegos. Now there were certain Gentiles among those who went up so that they might worship on the feast day.21Estos se acercaron a Felipe, que era de Betsaida en Galilea, y le hicieron este ruego: “Señor, deseamos ver a Jesús”. Therefore, these approached Philip, who was from Bethsaida of Galilee, and they petitioned him, saying: “Sir, we want to see Jesus.”22Felipe fue y se lo dijo a Andrés; y los dos fueron a decirlo a Jesús. Philip went and told Andrew. Next, Andrew and Philip told Jesus.23Jesús les respondió y dijo: “¿Ha llegado la hora de que el Hijo del hombre sea glorificado?” But Jesus answered them by saying: “The hour arrives when the Son of man shall be glorified.24En verdad, en verdad, os digo: si el grano de trigo arrojado en tierra no muere, se queda solo; mas si muere, produce fruto abundante. Amen, amen, I say to you, unless the grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies,25Quien ama su alma, la pierde; y quien aborrece su alma en este mundo, la conservará para vida eterna. it remains alone. But if it dies, it yields much fruit. Whoever loves his life, will lose it. And whoever hates his life in this world, preserves it unto eternal life.26Si alguno me quiere servir, sígame, y allí donde Yo estaré, mi servidor estará también; si alguno me sirve, el Padre lo honrará”. If anyone serves me, let him follow me. And where I am, there too my minister shall be. If anyone has served me, my Father will honor him.27“Ahora mi alma está turbada: ¿y qué diré? ¿Padre, presérvame de esta hora? ¡Mas precisamente para eso he llegado a esta hora! Now my soul is troubled. And what should I say? Father, save me from this hour? But it is for this reason that I came to this hour.28Padre glorifica tu nombre”. Una voz, entonces, bajó del cielo: “He glorificado ya, y glorificaré aún”. Father, glorify your name!” And then a voice came from heaven, “I have glorified it, and I will glorify it again.”29La muchedumbre que ahí estaba y oyó, decía que había sido un trueno; otros decían: “Un ángel le ha hablado”. Therefore, the crowd, which was standing near and had heard it, said that it was like thunder. Others were saying, “An Angel was speaking with him.”30Entonces Jesús respondió y dijo: “Esta voz no ha venido por Mí, sino por vosotros. Jesus responded and said: “This voice came, not for my sake, but for your sakes.31Ahora es el juicio de este mundo, ahora el príncipe de este mundo será expulsado. Now is the judgment of the world. Now will the prince of this world be cast out.32Y Yo, una vez levantado de la tierra, lo atraeré todo hacia Mí”. And when I have been lifted up from the earth, I will draw all things to myself.”33Decía esto para indicar de cuál muerte había de morir. (Now he said this, signifying what kind of death he would die.)34El pueblo le replicó: “Nosotros sabemos por la Ley que el Mesías morará entre nosotros para siempre; entonces, ¿cómo puedes Tú decir que es necesario que el Hijo del hombre sea levantado? ¿Quién es este Hijo del hombre?” The crowd answered him: “We have heard, from the law, that the Christ remains forever. And so how can you say, ‘The Son of man must be lifted up?’ Who is this Son of man?”35Jesús les dijo: “Poco tiempo está aún la luz entre vosotros; mientras tenéis la luz, caminad, no sea que las tinieblas os sorprendan; el que camina en tinieblas, no sabe adónde va. Therefore, Jesus said to them: “For a brief time, the Light is among you. Walk while you have the Light, so that the darkness may not overtake you. But whoever walks in darkness does not know where is he going.36Mientras tenéis la luz, creed en la luz, para volveros hijos de la luz”. Después de haber dicho esto, Jesús se alejó y se ocultó de ellos. While you have the Light, believe in the Light, so that you may be sons of the Light.” Jesus spoke these things, and then he went away and hid himself from them.37Mas a pesar de los milagros tan grandes que Él había hecho delante de ellos, no creían en Él. And although he had done such great signs in their presence, they did not believe in him,38Para que se cumpliese la palabra del profeta Isaías que dijo: “Señor, ¿quién ha creído a lo que oímos (de Ti) y el brazo del Señor, ¿a quién ha sido manifestado?” so that the word of the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled, which says: “Lord, who has believed in our hearing? And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?”39Ellos no podían creer, porque Isaías también dijo: Because of this, they were not able to believe, for Isaiah said again:40“Él ha cegado sus ojos y endurecido sus corazones, para que no vean con sus ojos, ni entiendan con su corazón, ni se conviertan, ni Yo los sane”. “He has blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart, so that they may not see with their eyes, and understand with their heart, and be converted: and then I would heal them.”41Isaías dijo esto cuando vio su gloria, y de Él habló. These things Isaiah said, when he saw his glory and was speaking about him.42Sin embargo, aun entre los jefes, muchos creyeron en Él, pero a causa de los fariseos, no (lo) confesaban, de miedo de ser excluidos de las sinagogas; Yet truly, many of the leaders also believed in him. But because of the Pharisees, they did not confess him, so that they would not be cast out of the synagogue.43porque amaron más la gloria de los hombres que la gloria de Dios. For they loved the glory of men more than the glory of God.44Y Jesús clamó diciendo: “El que cree en Mí, no cree en Mí, sino en Aquel que me envió; But Jesus cried out and said: “Whoever believes in me, does not believe in me, but in him who sent me.45y el que me ve, ve al que me envió. And whoever sees me, sees him who sent me.46Yo la luz, he venido al mundo para que todo el que cree en Mí no quede en tinieblas. I have arrived as a light to the world, so that all who believe in me might not remain in darkness.47Si alguno oye mis palabras y nos las observa, Yo no lo juzgo, porque no he venido para juzgar al mundo, sino para salvarlo. And if anyone has heard my words and not kept them, I do not judge him. For I did not come so that I may judge the world, but so that I may save the world.48El que me rechaza y no acepta mi palabra, ya tiene quien lo juzgará: la palabra que Yo he hablado, ella será la que lo condenará, en el último día. Whoever despises me and does not accept my words has one who judges him. The word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him on the last day.49Porque Yo no he hablado por Mí mismo, sino que el Padre, que me envió, me prescribió lo que debo decir y enseñar; For I am not speaking from myself, but from the Father who sent me. He gave a commandment to me as to what I should say and how I should speak.50y sé que su precepto es vida eterna. Lo que Yo digo, pues, lo digo como el Padre me lo ha dicho”. And I know that his commandment is eternal life. Therefore, the things that I speak, just as the Father has said to me, so also do I speak.”
