Juan 5
1Después de esto llegó una fiesta de los judíos, y Jesús subió a Jerusalén. After these things, there was a feast day of the Jews, and so Jesus ascended to Jerusalem.2Hay en Jerusalén, junto a la (puerta) de las Ovejas una piscina llamada en hebreo Betesda, que tiene cinco pórticos. Now at Jerusalem is the Pool of Evidence, which in Hebrew is known as the Place of Mercy; it has five porticos.3Allí estaban tendidos una cantidad de enfermos, ciegos, cojos, paralíticos, que aguardaban que el agua se agitase. [ Along these lay a great multitude of the sick, the blind, the lame, and the withered, waiting for the movement of the water.4Porque un ángel bajaba de tiempo en tiempo y agitaba el agua; y el primero que entraba después del movimiento del agua, quedaba sano de su mal, cualquiera que este fuese]. Now at times an Angel of the Lord would descend into the pool, and so the water was moved. And whoever descended first into the pool, after the motion of the water, he was healed of whatever infirmity held him.5Y estaba allí un hombre, enfermo desde hacía treinta y ocho años. And there was a certain man in that place, having been in his infirmity for thirty-eight years.6Jesús, viéndolo tendido y sabiendo que estaba enfermo hacía mucho tiempo, le dijo: “¿Quieres ser sanado?” Then, when Jesus had seen him reclining, and when he realized that he had been afflicted for a long time, he said to him, “Do you want to be healed?”7El enfermo le respondió: “Señor, yo no tengo a nadie que me meta en la piscina cuando el agua se agita; mientras yo voy, otro baja antes que yo”. The invalid answered him: “Lord, I do not have any man to put me in the pool, when the water has been stirred. For as I am going, another descends ahead of me.”8Díjole Jesús: “Levántate, toma tu camilla y anda”. Jesus said to him, “Rise, take up your stretcher, and walk.”9Al punto quedó sanado, tomó su camilla, y se puso a andar. Ahora bien, aquel día era sábado: And immediately the man was healed. And he took up his stretcher and walked. Now this day was the Sabbath.10Dijeron, pues, los judíos al hombre curado: “Es sábado; no te es lícito llevar tu camilla”. Therefore, the Jews said to the one who had been healed: “It is the Sabbath. It is not lawful for you to take up your stretcher.”11Él les respondió: “El que me sanó, me dijo: Toma tu camilla y anda”. He answered them, “The one who healed me, he said to me, ‘Take up your stretcher and walk.’ ”12Le preguntaron: “¿Quién es el que te dijo: Toma tu camilla y anda?” Therefore, they questioned him, “Who is that man, who said to you, ‘Take up your bed and walk?’ ”13El hombre sanado no lo sabía, porque Jesús se había retirado a causa del gentío que había en aquel lugar. But the one who had been given health did not know who it was. For Jesus had turned aside from the crowd gathered in that place.14Después de esto lo encontró Jesús en el Templo y le dijo: “Mira que ya estás sano; no peques más, para que no te suceda algo peor”. Afterwards, Jesus found him in the temple, and he said to him: “Behold, you have been healed. Do not choose to sin further, otherwise something worse may happen to you.”15Fuese el hombre y dijo a los judíos que el que lo había sanado era Jesús. This man went away, and he reported to the Jews that it was Jesus who had given him health.16Por este motivo atacaban los judíos a Jesús, porque hacía estas cosas en sábado. Because of this, the Jews were persecuting Jesus, for he was doing these things on the Sabbath.17Él les respondió: “Mi Padre continúa obrando, y Yo obro también”. But Jesus answered them, “Even now, my Father is working, and I am working.”18Con lo cual los judíos buscaban todavía más hacerlo morir, no solamente porque no observaba el sábado, sino porque llamaba a Dios su padre, igualándose de este modo a Dios. And so, because of this, the Jews were seeking to kill him even more so. For not only did he break the Sabbath, but he even said that God was his Father, making himself equal to God.19Entonces Jesús respondió y les dijo: “En verdad, en verdad, os digo, el Hijo no puede por Sí mismo hacer nada, sino lo que ve hacer al Padre; pero lo que Este hace, el Hijo lo hace igualmente. Then Jesus responded and said to them: “Amen, amen, I say to you, the Son is not able to do anything of himself, but only what he has seen the Father doing. For whatever he does, even this does the Son do, similarly.20Pues el Padre ama al Hijo y le muestra todo lo que Él hace; y le mostrará aún cosas más grandes que estas, para asombro vuestro. For the Father loves the Son, and he shows him all that he himself does. And greater works than these will he show him, so much so that you shall wonder.21Como el Padre resucita a los muertos y les devuelve la vida, así también el Hijo devuelve la vida a quien quiere. For just as the Father raises the dead and gives life, so also does the Son give life to whomever he wills.22Y el Padre no juzga a nadie, sino que ha dado todo el juicio al Hijo, For the Father does not judge anyone. But he has given all judgment to the Son,23a fin de que todos honren al Hijo como honran al Padre. Quien no honra al Hijo, no honra al Padre que lo ha enviado. so that all may honor the Son, just as they honor the Father. Whoever does not honor the Son, does not honor the Father who sent him.24En verdad, en verdad, os digo: El que escucha mi palabra y cree a Aquel que me envió, tiene vida eterna y no viene a juicio, sino que ha pasado ya de la muerte a la vida. Amen, amen, I say to you, that whoever hears my word, and believes in him who sent me, has eternal life, and he does not go into judgment, but instead he crosses from death into life.25En verdad, en verdad, os digo, vendrá el tiempo, y ya estamos en él, en que los muertos oirán la voz del Hijo de Dios, y aquellos que la oyeren, revivirán. Amen, amen, I say to you, that the hour is coming, and it is now, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God; and those who hear it shall live.26Porque así como el Padre tiene la vida en Sí mismo, ha dado también al Hijo el tener la vida en Sí mismo. For just as the Father has life in himself, so also has he granted to the Son to have life in himself.27Le ha dado también el poder de juzgar, porque es Hijo del hombre. And he has given him the authority to accomplish judgment. For he is the Son of man.28No os asombre esto, porque vendrá el tiempo en que todos los que están en los sepulcros oirán su voz; Do not be amazed at this. For the hour is coming in which all who are in the grave shall hear the voice of the Son of God.29y saldrán los que hayan hecho el bien, para resurrección de vida; y los que hayan hecho el mal, para resurrección de juicio. And those who have done good shall go forth to the resurrection of life. Yet truly, those who have done evil shall go to the resurrection of judgment.30Por Mí mismo Yo no puedo hacer nada. Juzgo según lo que oigo, y mi juicio es justo, porque no busco mi voluntad, sino la voluntad del que me envió. I am not able to do anything of myself. As I hear, so do I judge. And my judgment is just. For I do not seek my own will, but the will of him who sent me.31Si Yo doy testimonio de Mí mismo, mi testimonio no es verdadero. If I offer testimony about myself, my testimony is not true.32Pero otro es el que da testimonio de Mí, y sé que el testimonio que da acerca de Mí es verdadero. There is another who offers testimony about me, and I know that the testimony which he offers about me is true.33Vosotros enviasteis legados a Juan, y él dio testimonio a la verdad. You sent to John, and he offered testimony to the truth.34Pero no es que de un hombre reciba Yo testimonio, sino que digo esto para vuestra salvación. But I do not accept testimony from man. Instead, I say these things, so that you may be saved.35Él era antorcha que ardía y brillaba, y vosotros quisisteis regocijaros un momento a su luz. He was a burning and shining light. So you were willing, at the time, to exult in his light.36Pero el testimonio que Yo tengo es mayor que el de Juan, porque las obras que el Padre me ha dado para llevar a cabo, y que precisamente Yo realizo, dan testimonio de Mí, que es el Padre quien me ha enviado. But I hold a greater testimony than that of John. For the works which the Father has given to me, so that I may complete them, these works themselves that I do, offer testimony about me: that the Father has sent me.37El Padre que me envió, dio testimonio de Mí. Y vosotros ni habéis jamás oído su voz, ni visto su semblante, And the Father who has sent me has himself offered testimony about me. And you have never heard his voice, nor have you beheld his appearance.38ni tampoco tenéis su palabra morando en vosotros, puesto que no creéis a quien Él envió. And you do not have his word abiding in you. For the one whom he sent, the same you would not believe.39Escudriñad las Escrituras, ya que pensáis tener en ellas la vida eterna: son ellas las que dan testimonio de Mí, Study the Scriptures. For you think that in them you have eternal life. And yet they also offer testimony about me.40¡y vosotros no queréis venir a Mí para tener vida! And you are not willing to come to me, so that you may have life.41Gloria de los hombres no recibo, I do not accept glory from men.42sino que os conozco (y sé) que no tenéis en vosotros el amor de Dios. But I know you, that you do not have the love of God within you.43Yo he venido en el nombre de mi Padre, y no me recibís; si otro viniere en su propio nombre, ¡a ese lo recibiréis! I have come in the name of my Father, and you do not accept me. If another will arrive in his own name, him you will accept.44¿Cómo podéis vosotros creer, si admitís alabanza los unos de los otros, y la gloria que viene del único Dios no la buscáis? How are you able to believe, you who accept glory from one another and yet do not seek the glory that is from God alone?45No penséis que soy Yo quien os va a acusar delante del Padre. Vuestro acusador es Moisés, en quien habéis puesto vuestra esperanza. Do not consider that I might accuse you with the Father. There is one who accuses you, Moses, in whom you hope.46Si creyeseis a Moisés, me creeríais también a Mí, pues de Mí escribió Él. For if you were believing in Moses, perhaps you would believe in me also. For he wrote about me.47Pero si no creéis a sus escritos, ¿cómo creeréis a mis palabras?” But if you do not believe by his writings, how will you believe by my words?”
