Job 39
1“¿Sabes tú el tiempo en que paren las cabras monteses? ¿Observas el parto de las ciervas? Do you know at what time the wild goats have given birth among the rocks, or do you observe the deer when they go into labor?2¿Sabes tú los meses de su preñez, y conoces el tiempo de su parto? Have you numbered the months since their conception, and do you know at what time they gave birth?3Se encorvan y echan su cría librándose de sus dolores. They bend themselves for their offspring, and they give birth, and they emit roars.4Sus crías son robustas, crecen en el campo; se van, y no vuelven a ellas. Their young are weaned and go out to feed; they depart and do not return to them.5¿Quién dio libertad al asno montés, y quién soltó las ataduras del onagro, Who has set the wild ass free, and who has released his bonds?6al que di por domicilio el desierto y por morada la tierra salitrosa? I have given a house in solitude to him, and his tabernacle is in the salted land.7Se ríe del tumulto de la ciudad, y no oye los gritos del arriero. He despises the crowded city; he does not pay attention to the bellow of the tax collector.8Los montes son su lugar de pasto, anda buscando toda yerba verde. He looks around the mountains of his pasture, and he searches everywhere for green plants.9¿Querrá servirte acaso el búfalo, pasará la noche junto a tu pesebre? Will the rhinoceros be willing to serve you, and will he remain in your stall?10¿Podrás atarlo con coyundas para que abra surcos? ¿Querrá acaso rastrillar los valles detrás de ti? Can you detain the rhinoceros with your harness to plough for you, and will he loosen the soil of the furrows behind you?11¿Confiarás en él por su gran fuerza, y dejarás a su cuidado tus labores? Will you put your faith in his great strength, and delegate your labors to him?12¿Le fiarás traer a casa tu grano para llenar tu era? Will you trust him to return to you the seed, and to gather it on your drying floor?13El avestruz agita alegre las alas; no son alas pías, ni voladoras; The wing of the ostrich is like the wings of the heron, and of the hawk.14pues abandona en tierra sus huevos para calentarlos en el suelo. When she leaves eggs behind in the earth, will you perhaps warm them in the dust?15Olvida que puede pisarlos el pie, y aplastarlos la fiera del campo. She forgets that feet may trample them, or that the beasts of the field may shatter them.16Es cruel con sus hijos, como si fuesen ajenos; no le preocupa la inutilidad de sus fatigas. She is hardened against her young, as if they were not hers; she has labored in vain, with no fear compelling her.17Porque Dios le privó de sabiduría, y no le dio parte en la inteligencia. For God has deprived her of wisdom; neither has he given her understanding.18Pero cuando se alza y bate las alas, se burla del caballo y del jinete. Yet, when the time is right, she raises her wings on high; she ridicules the horse and his rider.19¿Das tú al caballo la valentía, y revistes su cuello con la airosa melena? Will you supply strength to the horse, or envelope his throat with neighing?20¿Le enseñas tú a saltar como la langosta, a esparcir terror con su potente relincho? Will you alarm him as the locusts do? His panic is revealed by the display of his nostrils.21Hiere la tierra, orgulloso de su fuerza, y se lanza al combate, He digs at the earth with his hoof; he jumps around boldly; he advances to meet armed men.22riéndose del miedo; no se acobarda, ni retrocede ante la espada. He despises fear; he does not turn away from the sword.23Si oye sobre sí el ruido de la aljaba, el vibrar de la lanza y del dardo, Above him, the quiver rattles, the spear and the shield shake.24con ímpetu fogoso sorbe la tierra, no deja contenerse al sonido de la trompeta. Seething and raging, he drinks up the earth; neither does he pause when the blast of the trumpet sounds.25Cuando suena la trompeta, dice: «¡Adelante!»; huele de lejos la batalla, la voz del mando de los capitanes, y el tumulto del combate. When he hears the bugle, he says, “Ha!” He smells the battle from a distance, the exhortation of the officers, and the battle cry of the soldiers.26¿Es acaso por obra tuya que emprende vuelo el gavilán, tendiendo sus alas hacia el sur? Does the hawk grow feathers by means of your wisdom, spreading her wings towards the south?27¿Es por orden tuya que remonta el águila, y pone su nido en las alturas? Will the eagle lift herself up at your command and make her nest in steep places?28Habita en la peña, y tiene su morada en la cima de las rocas más inaccesibles. She dwells among the rocks, and she lingers among broken boulders and inaccessible cliffs.29Allí acecha la presa, desde lejos atisban sus ojos. From there, she looks for food, and her eyes catch sight of it from far away.30Sus polluelos chupan la sangre; y doquiera que haya cadáveres se la encuentra.” Her young will drink blood, and wherever the carcass will be, she is there immediately.31Se dirigió entonces Yahvé a Job y dijo: And the Lord continued, and he said to Job:32“Quiere el censor contender más con el Omnipotente? El que disputa con Dios responda.” Will he who contends with God be so easily silenced? Certainly, he who argues with God must also respond to him.33Job respondió a Yahvé y dijo: Then Job answered the Lord, saying:34“He aquí ¡cuán pequeño soy yo! ¿Qué puedo responderte? Pondré mi mano sobre mi boca. What could I possibly answer, since I have been speaking thoughtlessly? I will place my hand over my mouth.35Una vez he hablado, mas no hablaré más; y otra vez (he hablado), pero no añadiré palabra. One thing I have spoken, which I wish I had not said; and another, to which I will add no more.
