¹Por aquel tiempo, Jesús iba pasando un día de sábado, a través de los sembrados; y sus discípulos, teniendo hambre, se pusieron a arrancar algunas espigas y a comerlas. At that time, Jesus went out through the ripe grain on the Sabbath. And his disciples, being hungry, began to separate the grain and to eat.²Viendo esto, los fariseos le dijeron: “Tus discípulos hacen lo que no es lícito hacer en sábado.” Then the Pharisees, seeing this, said to him, “Behold, your disciples are doing what is not lawful to do on the Sabbaths.”³Jesús les dijo: “¿No habéis leído, pues, lo que hizo David cuando tuvo hambre él y los que estaban con él, But he said to them: “Have you not read what David did, when he was hungry, and those who were with him:⁴cómo entró en la casa de Dios y comió los panes de la proposición, que no era lícito comer ni a él, ni a sus compañeros, sino solamente a los sacerdotes? how he entered the house of God and ate the bread of the Presence, which was not lawful for him to eat, nor for those who were with him, but only for the priests?⁵¿No habéis asimismo leído en la Ley, que el día de sábado, los sacerdotes, en el templo, violan el reposo sabático y lo hacen sin culpa? Or have you not read in the law, that on the Sabbaths the priests in the temple violate the Sabbath, and they are without guilt?⁶Ahora bien, os digo, hay aquí (alguien) mayor que el Templo. But I say to you, that something greater than the temple is here.⁷Si hubieseis comprendido lo que significa: “Misericordia quiero, y no sacrificio”, no condenaríais a unos inocentes. And if you knew what this means, ‘I desire mercy, and not sacrifice,’ you would never have condemned the innocent.⁸Porque Señor del sábado es el Hijo del hombre”. For the Son of man is Lord even of the Sabbath.”⁹De allí se fue a la sinagoga de ellos; y he aquí un hombre que tenía una mano seca. And when he had passed from there, he went into their synagogues.¹⁰Y le propusieron esta cuestión: “¿Es lícito curar el día de sábado?” —a fin de poder acusarlo—. And behold, there was a man who had a withered hand, and they questioned him, so that they might accuse him, saying, “Is it lawful to cure on the Sabbaths?”¹¹Él les dijo: “¿Cuál será de entre vosotros el que teniendo una sola oveja, si esta cae en un foso, el día de sábado, no irá a tomarla y levantarla? But he said to them: “Who is there among you, having even one sheep, if it will have fallen into a pit on the Sabbath, would not take hold of it and lift it up?¹²Ahora bien, ¡cuánto más vale el hombre que una oveja! Por consiguiente, es lícito hacer bien el día de sábado”. How much better is a man than a sheep? And so, it is lawful to do good on the Sabbaths.”¹³Entonces dijo al hombre: “Extiende tu mano”. Él la extendió, y le fue restituida como la otra. Then he said to the man, “Extend your hand.” And he extended it, and it was restored to health, just like the other one.¹⁴Pero los fariseos salieron y deliberaron contra Él sobre el modo de hacerlo perecer. Then the Pharisees, departing, took council against him, as to how they might destroy him.¹⁵Jesús, al saberlo, se alejó de allí. Y muchos lo siguieron, y los sanó a todos. But Jesus, knowing this, withdrew from there. And many followed him, and he cured them all.¹⁶Y les mandó rigurosamente que no lo diesen a conocer; And he instructed them, lest they make him known.¹⁷para que se cumpliese la palabra del profeta Isaías que dijo: Then what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah was fulfilled, saying:¹⁸“He aquí a mi siervo, a quien elegí, el Amado, en quien mi alma se complace. Pondré mi Espíritu sobre Él, y anunciará el juicio a las naciones. “Behold, my servant whom I have chosen, my beloved in whom my soul is well pleased. I will place my Spirit over him, and he shall announce judgment to the nations.¹⁹No disputará, ni gritará, y nadie oirá su voz en las plazas. He shall not contend, nor cry out, neither shall anyone hear his voice in the streets.²⁰No quebrará la caña cascada, ni extinguirá la mecha que aún humea, hasta que lleve el juicio a la victoria; He shall not crush the bruised reed, and he shall not extinguish the smoking wick, until he sends forth judgment unto victory.²¹y en su nombre pondrán las naciones su esperanza”. Then one who had a demon, who was blind and mute, was brought to him. And he cured him, so that he spoke and saw.²³Y todas las multitudes quedaron estupefactas y dijeron: “¿Será este el Hijo de David?” And all the crowds were stupefied, and they said, “Could this be the son of David?”²⁴Mas los fariseos, oyendo esto, dijeron: “Él no echa los demonios sino por Beelzebul, el príncipe de los demonios”. But the Pharisees, hearing it, said, “This man does not cast out demons, except by Beelzebub, the prince of the demons.”²⁵Conociendo sus pensamientos, les dijo entonces: “Todo reino dividido contra sí mismo, está arruinado, y toda ciudad o casa dividida contra sí misma, no puede subsistir. But Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said to them: “Every kingdom divided against itself will become desolate. And every city or house divided against itself will not stand.²⁶Si Satanás arroja a Satanás, contra sí mismo está dividido: entonces, ¿cómo podrá subsistir su reino? So if Satan casts out Satan, then he is divided against himself. How then will his kingdom stand?²⁷Y si Yo, por mi parte, echo los demonios por Beelzebul, ¿por quién los echan vuestros hijos? Por esto ellos serán vuestros jueces. And if I cast out demons by Beelzebub, by whom do your own sons cast them out? Therefore, they shall be your judges.²⁸Pero si por el Espíritu de Dios echo Yo los demonios, es evidente que ha llegado a vosotros el reino de Dios. But if I cast out demons by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God has arrived among you.²⁹¿O si no, cómo puede alguien entrar en la casa del hombre fuerte y quitarle sus bienes, si primeramente no ata al fuerte? Solamente entonces saqueará su casa. Or how can anyone enter into the house of a strong man, and plunder his belongings, unless he first restrains the strong man? And then he will plunder his house.³⁰Quien no está conmigo, está contra Mí, y quien no amontona conmigo, desparrama”. Whoever is not with me, is against me. And whoever does not gather with me, scatters.³¹“Por eso, os digo, todo pecado y toda blasfemia será perdonada a los hombres, pero la blasfemia contra el Espíritu no será perdonada. For this reason, I say to you: Every sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven men, but blasphemy against the Spirit shall not be forgiven.³²Y si alguno habla contra el Hijo del hombre, esto le será perdonado; pero al que hablare contra el Espíritu Santo, no le será perdonado ni en este siglo ni en el venidero. And anyone who will have spoken a word against the Son of man shall be forgiven. But whoever will have spoken against the Holy Spirit shall not be forgiven, neither in this age, nor in the future age.³³O haced (que sea ) el árbol bueno y su fruto bueno, o haced (que sea) el árbol malo y su fruto malo, porque por el fruto se conoce el árbol. Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or make the tree evil and its fruit evil. For certainly a tree is known by its fruit.³⁴Raza de víboras, ¿cómo podríais decir cosas buenas, malos como sois? Porque la boca habla de la abundancia del corazón. Progeny of vipers, how are you able to speak good things while you are evil? For out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks.³⁵El hombre bueno, de su tesoro de bondad saca el bien; el hombre malo, de su tesoro de malicia saca el mal. A good man offers good things from a good storehouse. And an evil man offers evil things from an evil storehouse.³⁶Os digo, que de toda palabra ociosa que se diga se deberá dar cuenta en el día del juicio. But I say to you, that for every idle word which men will have spoken, they shall render an account in the day of judgment.³⁷Según tus palabras serás declarado justo, según tus palabras serás condenado”. For by your words shall you be justified, and by your words shall you be condemned.”³⁸Entonces algunos de los escribas y fariseos respondieron, diciendo: “Maestro, queremos ver de Ti una señal”. Then certain ones from the scribes and the Pharisees responded to him, saying, “Teacher, we want to see a sign from you.”³⁹Replicoles Jesús y dijo: “Una raza mala y adúltera requiere una señal: no le será dada otra que la del profeta Jonás. And answering, he said to them: “An evil and adulterous generation seeks a sign. But a sign will not be given to it, except the sign of the prophet Jonah.⁴⁰Pues así como Jonás estuvo en el vientre del pez tres días y tres noches, así también el Hijo del hombre estará en el seno de la tierra tres días y tres noches. For just as Jonah was in the belly of the whale for three days and three nights, so shall the Son of man be in the heart of the earth for three days and three nights.⁴¹Los ninivitas se levantarán, en el día del juicio, con esta raza y la condenarán, porque ellos se arrepintieron a la predicación de Jonás; ahora bien, hay aquí más que Jonás. The men of Nineveh shall arise in judgment with this generation, and they shall condemn it. For, at the preaching of Jonah, they repented. And behold, there is a greater than Jonah here.⁴²La reina del Mediodía se levantará, en el juicio, con la generación esta y la condenará, porque vino de las extremidades de la tierra para escuchar la sabiduría de Salomón; ahora bien, hay aquí más que Salomón”. The Queen of the South shall arise in judgment with this generation, and she shall condemn it. For she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon. And behold, there is a greater than Solomon here.⁴³“Cuando el espíritu inmundo ha salido del hombre, recorre los lugares áridos, buscando reposo, pero no lo halla. Now when an unclean spirit departs from a man, he walks through dry places, seeking rest, and he does not find it.⁴⁴Entonces se dice: “Voy a volver a mi casa, de donde salí”. A su llegada, la encuentra desocupada, barrida y adornada. Then he says, ‘I will return to my house, from which I departed’. And arriving, he finds it vacant, swept clean, and decorated.⁴⁵Entonces se va a tomar consigo otros siete espíritus aún más malos que él; entran y se aposentan allí, y el estado último de ese hombre viene a ser peor que el primero. Así también acaecerá a esta raza perversa”. Then he goes and takes with him seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and live there. And in the end, the man becomes worse than he was at first. So, too, shall it be with this most wicked generation.”⁴⁶Mientras Él todavía hablaba a las multitudes, he ahí que su madre y sus hermanos estaban fuera buscando hablarle. While he was still speaking to the crowds, behold, his mother and his brothers were standing outside, seeking to speak with him.⁴⁷Díjole alguien: “Mira, tu madre y tus hermanos están de pie afuera buscando hablar contigo”. And someone said to him: “Behold, your mother and your brothers are standing outside, seeking you.”⁴⁸Mas Él respondió al que se lo decía: “¿Quién es mi madre y quiénes son mis hermanos?” But responding to the one speaking to him, he said, “Which one is my mother, and who are my brothers?”⁴⁹Y extendiendo la mano hacia sus discípulos, dijo: “He aquí a mi madre y mis hermanos. And extending his hand to his disciples, he said: “Behold: my mother and my brothers.⁵⁰Quienquiera que hace la voluntad de mi Padre celestial, este es mi hermano, hermana o madre”. For anyone who does the will of my Father, who is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.”
