1“Cuidad de no practicar vuestra justicia a la vista de los hombres con el objeto de ser mirados por ellos; de otra manera no tendréis recompensa de vuestro Padre celestial. “Pay attention, lest you perform your justice before men, in order to be seen by them; otherwise you shall not have a reward with your Father, who is in heaven.2Cuando, pues, haces limosna, no toques la bocina delante de ti, como hacen los hipócritas en las sinagogas y en las calles, para ser glorificados por los hombres; en verdad os digo, ya tienen su paga. Therefore, when you give alms, do not choose to sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the towns, so that they may be honored by men. Amen I say to you, they have received their reward.3Tú, al contrario, cuando haces limosna, que tu mano izquierda no sepa lo que hace tu mano derecha, But when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,4para que tu limosna quede oculta, y tu Padre, que ve en lo secreto, te lo pagará”. so that your almsgiving may be in secret, and your Father, who sees in secret, will repay you.5“Cuando oréis, no seáis como los hipócritas, que gustan orar de pie en las sinagogas y en las esquinas de las calles, para ser vistos de los hombres; en verdad os digo, ya tienen su paga. And when you pray, you should not be like the hypocrites, who love standing in the synagogues and at the corners of the streets to pray, so that they may be seen by men. Amen I say to you, they have received their reward.6Tú, al contrario, cuando quieras orar entra en tu aposento, corre el cerrojo de la puerta, y ora a tu Padre que está en lo secreto, y tu Padre, que ve en lo secreto, te lo pagará. But you, when you pray, enter into your room, and having shut the door, pray to your Father in secret, and your Father, who sees in secret, will repay you.7Y cuando oráis, no abundéis en palabras, como los paganos, que se figuran que por mucho hablar serán oídos. And when praying, do not choose many words, as the pagans do. For they think that by their excess of words they might be heeded.8Por lo tanto, no los imitéis, porque vuestro Padre sabe qué cosas necesitáis, antes de que vosotros le pidáis. Therefore, do not choose to imitate them. For your Father knows what your needs may be, even before you ask him.9Así, pues, oraréis vosotros: Padre nuestro que estás en los cielos, santificado sea tu nombre; Therefore, you shall pray in this way: Our Father, who is in heaven: May your name be kept holy.10venga tu reino; hágase tu voluntad en la tierra como en el cielo. May your kingdom come. May your will be done, as in heaven, so also on earth.11Danos hoy nuestro pan supersubstancial; Give us this day our life-sustaining bread.12y perdónanos nuestras deudas, como también nosotros perdonamos a nuestros deudores; And forgive us our debts, as we also forgive our debtors.13y no nos introduzcas en tentación, antes bien líbranos del Maligno. And lead us not into temptation. But free us from evil. Amen.14Si, pues, vosotros perdonáis a los hombres sus ofensas, vuestro Padre celestial os perdonará también; For if you will forgive men their sins, your heavenly Father also will forgive you your offenses.15pero si vosotros no perdonáis a los hombres, tampoco vuestro Padre perdonará vuestros pecados”. But if you will not forgive men, neither will your Father forgive you your sins.16“Cuando ayunéis, no pongáis cara triste, como los hipócritas, que fingen un rostro escuálido para que las gentes noten que ellos ayunan; en verdad, os digo, ya tienen su paga. And when you fast, do not choose to become gloomy, like the hypocrites. For they alter their faces, so that their fasting may be apparent to men. Amen I say to you, that they have received their reward.17Mas tú, cuando ayunes, perfuma tu cabeza y lava tu rostro, But as for you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face,18a fin de que tu ayuno sea visto, no de las gentes, sino de tu Padre, que está en lo secreto; y tu Padre, que ve en lo secreto, te lo pagará”. so that your fasting will not be apparent to men, but to your Father, who is in secret. And your Father, who sees in secret, will repay you.19“No os amontonéis tesoros en la tierra, donde polilla y herrumbre (los) destruyen, y donde los ladrones horadan los muros y roban. Do not choose to store up for yourselves treasures on earth: where rust and moth consume, and where thieves break in and steal.20Amontonaos tesoros en el cielo, donde ni polilla ni herrumbre destruyen, y donde ladrones no horadan ni roban. Instead, store up for yourselves treasures in heaven: where neither rust nor moth consumes, and where thieves do not break in and steal.21Porque allí donde está tu tesoro, allí también estará tu corazón”. For where your treasure is, there also is your heart.22“La lámpara del cuerpo es el ojo: Si tu ojo está sencillo, todo tu cuerpo gozará de la luz; The lamp of your body is your eye. If your eye is wholesome, your entire body will be filled with light.23pero si tu ojo está inservible, todo tu cuerpo estará en tinieblas. Luego, si la luz que hay en ti es tiniebla, ¿las tinieblas mismas, cuán grandes serán?”. But if your eye has been corrupted, your entire body will be darkened. If then the light that is in you is darkness, how great will that darkness be!24“Nadie puede servir a dos señores; porque odiará al uno y amará al otro; o se adherirá al uno y despreciará al otro. Vosotros no podéis servir a Dios y a Mammón”. No one is able to serve two masters. For either he will have hatred for the one, and love the other, or he will persevere with the one, and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.25“Por esto os digo: no os preocupéis por vuestra vida: qué comeréis o qué beberéis; ni por vuestro cuerpo, con qué lo vestiréis. ¿No vale más la vida que el alimento? ¿y el cuerpo más que el vestido? And so I say to you, do not be anxious about your life, as to what you will eat, nor about your body, as to what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?26Mirad las aves del cielo, que no siembran ni siegan, ni juntan en graneros; y vuestro Padre celestial las alimenta. ¿No valéis vosotros mucho más que ellas? Consider the birds of the air, how they neither sow, nor reap, nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of much greater value than they are?27¿Y quién de vosotros puede, por mucho que se afane, añadir un codo a su estatura? And which of you, by thinking, is able to add one cubit to his stature?28y por el vestido, ¿por qué preocuparos? Aprended de los lirios del campo: cómo crecen; no trabajan, ni hilan, And as for clothing, why are you anxious? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they neither work nor weave.29mas Yo os digo, que ni Salomón, en toda su magnificencia, se vistió como uno de ellos. But I say to you, that not even Solomon, in all his glory, was arrayed like one of these.30Si, pues, la hierba del campo, que hoy aparece y mañana es echada al horno, Dios así la engalana ¿no (hará Él) mucho más a vosotros, hombres de poca fe? So if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is here today, and cast into the oven tomorrow, how much more will he care for you, O little in faith?31No os preocupéis, por consiguiente, diciendo: “¿Qué tendremos para comer? ¿Qué tendremos para beber? ¿Qué tendremos para vestirnos?” Therefore, do not choose to be anxious, saying: ‘What shall we eat, and what shall we drink, and with what shall we be clothed?’32Porque todas estas cosas las codician los paganos. Vuestro Padre celestial ya sabe que tenéis necesidad de todo eso. For the Gentiles seek all these things. Yet your Father knows that you need all these things.33Buscad, pues, primero el reino de Dios y su justicia, y todo eso se os dará por añadidura. Therefore, seek first the kingdom of God and his justice, and all these things shall be added to you as well.34No os preocupéis, entonces, del mañana. El mañana se preocupará de sí mismo. A cada día le basta su propia pena”. Therefore, do not be anxious about tomorrow; for the future day will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its evil.”
