Salmos 38

1Al maestro de coro, a Iditún. Salmo de David. Unto the end. For Jeduthun himself. A Canticle of David.2Yo me dije: “Atenderé a mis caminos, para no pecar con mi lengua; pondré un freno a mi boca mientras el impío esté frente a mí.” I said, “I will keep to my ways, so that I will not offend with my tongue.” I posted a guard at my mouth, when a sinner took up a position against me.3Y quedé silencioso, mudo; callé aun el bien; pero mi dolor se exasperaba. I was silenced and humbled, and I was quiet before good things, and my sorrow was renewed.4El corazón ardía en mi pecho; cuando reflexionaba, el fuego se encendía; entonces solté mi lengua diciendo: My heart grew hot within me, and, during my meditation, a fire would flare up.5“Hazme saber, Yahvé, cuál es mi fin, y cuál el número de mis días, para que entienda cuan caduco soy. I spoke with my tongue, “O Lord, make me know my end, and what the number of my days will be, so that I may know what is lacking to me.”6Tú diste a mis días un largo de pocos palmos, y mi vida es como nada ante Ti. Un mero soplo es todo hombre. Behold, you have made my days measurable, and, before you, my substance is as nothing. Yet truly, all things are vanity: every living man.7Como una sombra, pasa el mortal, y vanamente se inquieta; atesora, y no sabe quién recogerá.” So then, truly man passes by like an image; even so, he is disquieted in vain. He stores up, and he knows not for whom he will gather these things.8Así pues ¿qué espero yo ahora, Señor? Toda mi esperanza está en Ti. And now, what is it that awaits me? Is it not the Lord? And my substance is with you.9Sálvame Tú de todas mis iniquidades; no me entregues al escarnio del necio. Rescue me from all my iniquities. You have handed me over as a reproach to the foolish.10Enmudezco y no abro más mi boca; porque todo lo haces Tú. I was silenced, and I did not open my mouth, because it was you who acted.11Solo aparta de mí tu azote, pues ante el poder de tu mano desfallezco. Remove your scourges from me.12Tú castigas al hombre por su culpa; destruyes, como la polilla, lo que él más aprecia. En verdad, todo hombre no es más que un soplo. I fall short at corrections from the strength of your hand. For you have chastised man for iniquity. And you have made his soul shrink away like a spider. Nevertheless, it is in vain that any man be disquieted.13Escucha, Yahvé, mi ruego, presta oído a mis clamores, no te hagas sordo a mis lágrimas; porque frente a Ti yo soy un peregrino, un transeúnte, como fueron todos mis padres. O Lord, heed my prayer and my supplication. Pay attention to my tears. Do not be silent. For I am a newcomer with you, and a sojourner, just as all my fathers were.14Deja de castigarme para que respire, antes que parta y ya no esté. Forgive me, so that I may be refreshed, before I will go forth and be no more.
