Salmos 40
1Al maestro de coro. Salmo de David. Unto the end. A Psalm of David himself.2Dichoso el que sabe comprender al débil y al pobre; en el día aciago Yahvé lo pone a salvo. Blessed is he who shows understanding toward the needy and the poor. The Lord will deliver him in the evil day.3Yahvé cuida de él y lo hace vivir, lo hace próspero sobre la tierra, y no lo entrega a la voluntad de sus enemigos. May the Lord preserve him and give him life, and make him blessed upon the earth. And may he not hand him over to the will of his adversaries.4Yahvé lo conforta en el lecho del dolor, y calma sus padecimientos durante toda su enfermedad. May the Lord bring him help on his bed of sorrow. In his infirmity, you have changed his entire covering.5Yo por mi parte digo: “Apiádate de mí, Yahvé, sana mi alma porque pequé contra Ti.” I said, “O Lord, be merciful to me. Heal my soul, because I have sinned against you.”6Mis enemigos hablan de mí con maldad (diciendo): “¿Cuándo morirá y perecerá su nombre?” My enemies have spoken evils against me. When will he die and his name perish?7Y el que viene a visitarme habla con falsía; en su interior hace provisión de maledicencia, y entonces sale afuera y la desparrama. And when he came in to see me, he was speaking emptiness. His heart gathered iniquity to itself. He went outside, and he was speaking in the same way.8Todos los que me odian se juntan para murmurar contra mí; imaginan de mí lo peor: All my enemies were whispering against me. They were thinking up evils against me.9“Le ha sobrevenido una peste maligna; se acostó y no volverá a levantarse.” They established an unjust word against me. Will he that sleeps no longer rise again?10Hasta mi amigo, de quien me fiaba, que comía mi pan, ha alzado contra mí su calcañar. For even the man of my peace, in whom I hoped, who ate my bread, has greatly supplanted me.11Mas Tú, Yahvé, apiádate de mí; levántame para que les retribuya. But you, O Lord, have mercy on me, and raise me up again. And I will requite them.12En esto conoceré que me amas, si el que me odia no se huelga a costa mía, By this, I knew that you preferred me: because my adversary will not rejoice over me.13y me sustentas en mi integridad, conservándome en tu presencia para siempre. But you have sustained me, because of my innocence, and you have confirmed me in your sight in eternity.14¡Bendito sea Yahvé, Dios de Israel, desde la eternidad y por la eternidad! Amén, Amén. Blessed is the Lord God of Israel, for all generations and even forever. Amen. Amen.
