1El juez sabio hará justicia a su pueblo, y será estable el principado del varón sensato. A wise judge will judge his people, and the leadership of an understanding man will be steadfast.2Cual es el juez del pueblo, tales son sus ministros, y cuál es el gobernador de la ciudad, tales son sus habitantes. As the judge of the people is, so also are his assistants. And whatever kind of man the ruler of a city is, of such a kind also are those who live in it.3El rey imprudente será la ruina de su pueblo; mas la prudencia de los que mandan poblará las ciudades. A foolish king will be the ruin of his people. For cities will be inhabited through the understanding of those with power.4La potestad de la tierra está en manos de Dios; y Él a su tiempo suscitará a quien la gobierne útilmente. Power over the earth is in the hand of God, and, in due time, he will raise up a helpful leader over the earth.5En manos de Dios está la prosperidad del hombre; y Él hace participar de su gloria al escriba. The prosperity of a man is in the hand of God, and he will place his honor above the face of the scribe.6Echa en olvido todas las injurias recibidas del prójimo; y nada hagas en daño de otro. You should forget all injury done to you by your neighbor, and you should do nothing among the works of injury.7La soberbia es aborrecida de Dios y de los hombres; y execrable toda iniquidad de las gentes. Arrogance is hateful in the sight of God and of men. And all iniquity among the nations is abominable.8Un reino es trasladado de una nación a otra por causa de las injusticias, y violencias y ultrajes, y de muchas maneras de fraudes. A kingdom is transferred from one people to another because of injustices, and injuries, and contempt, and every kind of deceit.9No hay cosa más detestable que un avaro. ¿De qué se ensoberbece el que es tierra y ceniza? But nothing is more wicked than a greedy man. Why should that which is earth and ashes be arrogant?10No hay cosa más inicua que el que codicia el dinero; porque el tal a su alma misma pone en venta; y aun viviendo se arranca sus propias entrañas. There is nothing more iniquitous than to love money. For such a one has sold even his own soul. For in his life, he casts aside his innermost being.11Breve es la vida de todo potentado. La enfermedad prolija es pesada para el médico; All power is of short life. A prolonged sickness is of grave concern to a physician.12la corta enfermedad la ataja el médico. Así el que hoy es rey, mañana morirá. A physician causes a sickness to be shortened. So also, a king is here today, and tomorrow he will die.13Cuando muera el hombre, su herencia serán serpientes, sabandijas y gusanos. For when a man dies, he will inherit serpents, and wild beasts, and worms.14El principio de la soberbia del hombre fue apostatar de Dios, The beginning of the arrogance of man is apostasy from God.15apartándose su corazón de Aquel que le creó. Así, pues, el origen de todo pecado es la soberbia; quien la tuviere, rebosará en abominaciones, y ella al fin será su ruina. For his heart has withdrawn from the One who made him. For arrogance is the beginning of all sin. Whoever holds to it, will be filled with evil words, and it will overthrow him in the end.16Por eso el Señor cargó de ignominia la raza de los malvados, y los destruyó hasta exterminarlos. Because of this, the Lord has dishonored the gatherings of the evil, and he has destroyed them, even unto the end.17Derribó Dios los tronos de los príncipes soberbios, y colocó en su lugar a los humildes. God has destroyed the seats of arrogant leaders, and he has caused the meek to be seated in their place.18Arrancó de raíz las naciones soberbias, y plantó aquellos que eran despreciables entre las mismas gentes. The roots of arrogant nations, God has dried up, and the humble among these nations, he has planted.19Asoló el Señor las tierras de las naciones, y las arrasó hasta los cimientos. The Lord has overthrown the lands of the Gentiles, and he has utterly destroyed them, even to their foundation.20A algunas de ellas las desoló; acabó con sus moradores, y extirpó del mundo su memoria. He has dried up some of them, and he has utterly destroyed them, and he has caused their memory to depart from the earth.21Aniquiló Dios la memoria de los soberbios; y conservó la memoria de los humildes de corazón. God has abolished the memory of the arrogant, and he has left behind only the memory of those who are humble in mind.22No fue creada para los hombres la soberbia, ni la cólera para el hijo de la mujer. Arrogance was not created for men, nor was an angry temperament created for the gender of women.23Honrada será la descendencia del que teme a Dios; mas será deshonrada la del que traspasa los mandamientos del Señor. Those who fear God among the offspring of men will be honored. But those among the offspring who ignore the commandments of the Lord will be dishonored.24Entre los hermanos el superior es honrado; así sucederá en la presencia del Señor a aquellos que le temen. In the midst of his brothers, a ruler has honor. And those who fear the Lord will have honor in his eyes.25La gloria de los ricos, la de los hombres constituidos en dignidad, y la de los pobres es el temor de Dios. The fear of God is the glory of the wealthy, and of the honorable, and of the poor.26Guárdate de menospreciar al justo si es pobre; guárdate de hacer gran aprecio del pecador si es rico. Do not choose to despise a just man who is poor, and do not choose to magnify a sinful man who is rich.27Los grandes, los jueces y los poderosos gozan de honor; pero ninguno lo tiene mayor que aquel que teme a Dios. The great man, and the judge, and the powerful have honor. But no one is greater than he who fears God.28Al siervo prudente se le sujetarán los hombres libres. El varón cuerdo y bien enseñado no murmurará por ser corregido; mas al siervo necio no se le hará semejante honra. Those who are free will serve an understanding servant. And a prudent and disciplined man will not murmur at correction. But an ignorant man will not be honored.29No te engrías cuando tu obra te salga bien; ni estés de plantón en tiempo de necesidad. Do not choose to extol yourself in doing your work, and do not be unproductive during the time of distress.30Es más digno de estima aquel que trabaja y abunda de todo, que el jactancioso que no tiene pan. He who works, and so abounds in all things, is better than he who boasts, and so lacks bread.31Hijo, conserva en la mansedumbre tu alma, y hónrala como ella merece. Son, preserve your soul in meekness, and give it honor according to its merit.32¿Quién justificará al que peca contra su alma? ¿Y quién honrará al que a su propia alma deshonra? Who will justify one who sins in his soul? And who will honor one who dishonors his soul?33El pobre es honrado por sus buenas costumbres y santo temor; y el rico es respetado por las riquezas que tiene. The poor man is glorified by his discipline and fear. And there is a man who is honored because of his substance.34Mas aquel que en medio de la pobreza se gloría, ¿cuánto más no lo haría si llegase a ser rico? El que se gloría en sus riquezas, tiene que temer la pobreza. But if someone is glorified in poverty, how much more in substance? And whoever is glorified in substance, let him fear poverty.
