1No te alegres de que tus hijos se multipliquen si son malos, ni te complazcas en ellos, si no tienen temor de Dios. You should not rejoice in impious children, if they are successful; nor should you take delight in them, if the fear of God is not in them.2No fíes en su vida, ni cuentes con sus labores; You should not approve of their life, nor should you look with favor on their labors.3porque mejor es un solo hijo temeroso de Dios, que mil hijos malos; For one child who fears God is better than one thousand impious children.4y más cuenta tiene el morir sin hijos, que dejar hijos malos. And it is better to die without children, than to leave behind impious children.5Un solo hombre cuerdo hará que sea poblada la patria; mas despoblada será la nación de los impíos. By means of one person with understanding, a country will be inhabited. The tribe of the impious will become desolate.6Muchas cosas semejantes han visto mis ojos, y más graves que estas las han oído mis oídos. Many such things my eyes have seen, and greater things than these my ear has heard.7Arderán llamas en la reunión de los pecadores; y la ira reventará sobre la nación de los incrédulos. In the synagogue of sinners, a fire will blaze forth; and amid an unbelieving people, wrath will flare up.8Implacable se mostró Dios a los pecados de los antiguos gigantes; los cuales, confiados en sus fuerzas, fueron aniquilados. The giants of antiquity did not obtain pardon for their sins; they were destroyed by trusting in their own abilities.9Ni perdonó al lugar donde estaba hospedado Lot, antes bien maldijo a sus habitantes por la soberbia de sus palabras. And he did not spare the place of Lot’s sojourn, and he abhorred them because of the arrogance of their words.10No tuvo lástima de ellos, y destruyó a toda aquella nación que hacía gala de sus delitos. He did not take pity on them, destroying an entire people, who even extolled themselves concerning their sins.11Y lo mismo a los seiscientos mil hombres que, obstinados de corazón, se amotinaron. Aunque uno solo fuese contumaz, sería cosa maravillosa que quedase sin castigo. And this was so with six hundred thousand men, who were gathered together in the hardness of their hearts. And if even a single obstinate person had escaped unpunished, it would be a wonder.12Porque la misericordia y la ira están con el Señor; puede aplacarse, y puede descargar su enojo. For mercy and wrath are with him. He is powerful in forgiveness, and he pours forth wrath.13Así como usa de misericordia, así también castiga; Él juzga al hombre según sus obras. As is his mercy, so also is his correction; he judges a man according to his works.14No escapará el pecador de su latrocinio; y no se retardará al hombre misericordioso el premio que espera. The sinner, in his violations, will not escape; but the patience of the One who shows mercy will not be diminished.15Todo acto de misericordia prepara el lugar a cada uno según el mérito de sus obras, y según su prudente conducta durante la peregrinación. Every mercy will make a place for each man, according to the merit of his works, and according to the understanding of his sojourn.16No digas: “Yo me esconderé de Dios; ¿y desde allá arriba quién pensará en mí? You should not say: “I am hidden from God,” or, “Who, from on high, will take note of me?”17Nadie me reconocerá en medio de tan gran muchedumbre; porque, ¿qué es mi persona entre tanta infinidad de creaturas?” or, “Among a great number of people, I will not be noticed. For what is my soul amid such an immense creation?”18He aquí que el cielo, y los altísimos cielos, el abismo y la tierra toda y cuanto en ellos se contiene, temblarán a una mirada suya. Behold: the heavens, and the heaven of the heavens, the abyss, and the entire earth, and the things that are within these, will be shaken by his gaze,19Los montes también y los collados, y los cimientos de la tierra, solo con que los mire Dios, se estremecerán de terror. together with mountains and hills, and the foundations of the earth. When God casts his gaze upon them, they will be struck with trembling.20Y en medio de todo esto, es insensato el corazón; pero Él está viendo todos los corazones. And concerning all these things, the heart is without understanding; but every heart is understood by him.21¿Quién es el que entiende sus caminos? ¿Y aquella tormenta, que jamás habrán visto ojos humanos? And who will understand his ways, or the tempest, which no eye of man will see?22Así es que escondidas son muchísimas de sus obras; mas las obras de su justicia, ¿quién será capaz de explicarlas? ¿O quién las podrá sufrir? porque los decretos de Dios están muy distantes de algunos; pero a todos se ha de pedir cuenta al fin. For many of his works are concealed. But who will announce the works of his justice? Or who will endure them? For the testament is far from some persons, and the examination of each thing is in its end.23El hombre mentecato piensa en cosas vanas; el insensato y descarriado se ocupa de sandeces. Whoever diminishes the heart, thinks empty thoughts. For the imprudent and erring man thinks up foolishness.24Escúchame, hijo, y aprende la educación del espíritu, y medita en tu corazón las palabras que voy a decirte; Listen to me, son, and learn the discipline of understanding, and attend to my words in your heart.25pues te daré instrucciones muy acertadas, y te manifestaré la escondida sabiduría; aplícate de corazón a atender mis palabras, que yo con ánimo sincero te diré las maravillas que esparce Dios en sus obras desde el principio, y te mostraré con toda verdad su ciencia. And I will speak with equity about discipline, and I will strive to announce wisdom. So attend to my words in your heart, and I will speak with equity of spirit, about the virtues that God has set within his works from the beginning, and I will announce his knowledge in truth.26Formó Dios sabiamente desde el principio sus obras, y desde su creación las distinguió en partes; y sus inicios se forman según su naturaleza. With the judgment of God, his works have been done from the beginning; and from their institution, he himself distinguished their parts and set their beginnings, in their kinds.27Dio a sus operaciones virtud perenne; sin que hayan tenido necesidad de ser restauradas, ni se hayan fatigado, ni cesado nunca de obrar. He has beautified their works unto eternity. They have neither hungered, nor labored, and they have not ceased from their works.28Jamás ninguna de ellas embarazará a la otra. Neither will any one of them cause anguish to his neighbor, forever.29No seas tú desobediente a su palabra. You should not be incredulous at his word.30Después de esto miró Dios la tierra, y la colmó de bienes. Afterward, God looked with favor upon the earth, and he filled it with his goodness.31Eso están demostrando todos los seres vivientes, que están sobre su superficie y vuelven otra vez a ser tierra. The soul of every living thing brought word from before his face, and their return again is to him.
