1El que quiere vengarse, experimentará la venganza del Señor; el cual tendrá exacta cuenta de sus pecados. Whoever wishes for vengeance will find vengeance from the Lord, and he will surely be attentive to his sins.2Perdona a tu prójimo cuando te agravia, y así cuando tú implores el perdón, te serán perdonados los pecados. Forgive your neighbor, if he has harmed you, and then your sins will be forgiven you when you pray.3Un hombre conserva encono contra otro hombre, ¿y pide a Dios la salud? A man holds on to anger against another man, and does he then seek a remedy from God?4No usa de misericordia con otro hombre como él, ¿y pide perdón de sus pecados? He has no mercy on a man like himself, and does he then entreat for his own sins?5Siendo él carne conserva el enojo, ¿y pide a Dios reconciliación? ¿Quién se la alcanzará por sus pecados? He who is but flesh holds on to anger, and does he then request forgiveness from God? Who can obtain pardon for his sins in this way?6Acuérdate de las postrimerías, y déjate de enemistades; Remember your very end, and let animosities cease.7pues la corrupción y la muerte están intimadas en sus mandamientos. For corruption and death are suspended over his commandments.8Acuérdate de temer a Dios, y no estés airado con tu prójimo. Remember the fear of God, and do not be angry with your neighbor.9Ten presente la ley del Altísimo, y no hagas caso del yerro del prójimo. Remember the covenant of the Most High, and overlook the ignorant offenses of your neighbor.10Abstente de litigios, y te ahorrarás pecados; Refrain from strife, and you will diminish your sins.11porque el hombre iracundo enciende querellas, y el pecador suscita discordias entre los amigos, y siembra enemistades en medio de los que viven en paz. For an ill-tempered man enflames conflict, and a sinful man troubles his friends, and he casts hostility into the midst of those who have peace.12Porque según la, leña del bosque es el incendio, según el poder del hombre es su enojo, y según sus riquezas crece su cólera. For the fire burns according to the wood of the forest. And the anger of a man burns according to the strength of the man. And according to his resources, he will exalt his anger.13Como la reyerta precipitada enciende el fuego, y la querella temeraria derrama sangre, de igual modo la lengua amenazadora acarrea la muerte. A hasty contention kindles a fire. And a hasty quarrel sheds blood. And an accusatory tongue brings death.14Si soplares en una chispa, se encenderá de ella fuego, y si escupieres sobre ella se apagará. Lo uno y lo otro sale de la boca. If you blow on a spark, it will increase to a fire. But if you spit on it, it will be extinguished. Both of these proceed from the mouth.15El murmurador y el de dos lenguas es maldito, porque mete confusión entre muchos que vivían en paz. The double-tongued whisperer is accursed. For he has disturbed many who had peace.16La lengua de un tercero ha alborotado a muchos, y los ha dispersado de un pueblo a otro. A third tongue has stirred up many, and has scattered them from nation to nation.17Arruinó ciudades fuertes y ricas, y destruyó desde los cimientos los palacios de los magnates. It has destroyed the walled cities of the wealthy, and has undermined the houses of the great.18Aniquiló las fuerzas de los pueblos, y disipó gentes valerosas. It has cut down the virtues of the peoples, and has broken strong nations.19La lengua de un tercero echó fuera de casa a mujeres varoniles, y las privó del fruto de sus fatigas. A third tongue has cast down virtuous women, and has deprived them of their labors.20El que la escucha no tendrá sosiego, ni tampoco encontrará un amigo con quien consolarse. Whoever favors it will not have rest, nor will he have a friend in whom he may find peace.21El golpe del azote deja un cardenal, pero el golpe de la lengua desmenuza los huesos. The wound of a whip causes a bruise, but the wound of the tongue will crush the bones.22Muchos han perecido al filo de la espada; pero no tantos como por culpa de su lengua. Many have fallen by the mouth of the sword, but not as many as have perished by their own tongue.23Bienaventurado el que está a cubierto de la mala lengua, ni experimentó su furor, ni arrastró su yugo, ni fue atado con sus cadenas; Blessed is he who is protected from a wicked tongue, who has not gone over to its wrath, and has not pulled its yoke, and has not been bound by its chains.24porque su yugo es yugo de hierro, y sus cadenas son cadenas de bronce. For its yoke is a yoke of iron. And its chains are chains of brass.25La muerte que de ella proviene es la peor; más tolerable que ella es el sepulcro. Its death is a most wicked death. And hell is more useful than it is.26Ella no será de larga duración; se enseñoreará de los caminos de los perversos; sus llamas, a pesar de todo, no quemarán a los justos. Its continuance will not be permanent, but it will take hold of the ways of the unjust. And the just will not be burned by its flame.27Los que abandonan a Dios, caerán en poder de la mala lengua, la cual encenderá en ellos su fuego, que no se apagará; se desencadenará contra ellos como león, y cual leopardo los despedazará. Those who abandon God will fall by it, and it will burn within them and not be quenched. And it will be sent upon them, like a lion, and it will wound them, like a leopard.28Haz de espinas una cerca a tus orejas, no des oídos a la mala lengua, y pon puerta y candado a tu boca. Hedge your ears with thorns. Do not be willing to listen to a wicked tongue. And make doors and bars for your mouth.29Funde tu oro y tu plata, haz una balanza para tus palabras, y un freno bien ajustado para tu boca; Melt down your gold and your silver. And make a scale for your words, and an upright bridle for your mouth.30y mira no resbales en tu hablar, por lo cual caigas por tierra delante de los enemigos que te acechan, y sea incurable y mortal tu caída. And be attentive, lest perhaps you may slip with your tongue, and fall in the sight of your enemies, who are lying in wait for you, and then your fall may be incurable unto death.
