1No seas celoso de tu querida esposa; para que no se valga de las malas ideas que tú le sugieres. You should not be jealous of the wife of your bosom, lest she reveal, because of you, the malice of a wicked lesson.2No dejes que la mujer tenga dominación sobre tu espíritu; para que no se levante contra tu autoridad, y quedes avergonzado. You should not give authority over your soul to a woman, lest she obtain your strength, and then you would be confounded.3No pongas los ojos en una mujer que quiere a muchos, no sea que caigas en su lazo. You should not look with favor on a woman with many desires, lest perhaps you may fall into her traps.4No frecuentes el trato con la bailarina, ni la escuches, si no quieres perecer a la fuerza de su atractivo. You should not be continually in need of entertainment, nor should you be persuaded by it, lest perhaps you may perish by its effectiveness.5No pongas tus ojos en la doncella, para que su belleza no sea ocasión de tu ruina. You should not stare at a virgin, lest perhaps you may be scandalized by her beauty.6De ningún modo des entrada en tu alma a las meretrices, para que no te pierdas a ti y tu patrimonio. You should not give your soul, in any way, to fornicators, lest you destroy yourself and your inheritance.7No andes derramando tu vista por las calles de la ciudad, ni vagueando de plaza en plaza. Do not choose to look around in the streets of the city, nor should you wander along its thoroughfares.8Aparta tus ojos de la mujer lujosamente ataviada, y no mires curioso una hermosura ajena. Avert your face from an ornate woman, for you should not gaze upon strange beauty.9Por la hermosura de la mujer muchos se han perdido; pues por ella se enciende cual fuego la concupiscencia. Many have perished because of the beauty of a woman; and by this, desire is kindled like a fire.10Cualquiera mujer pública es pisoteada como estiércol en el camino. Every woman who is a fornicator will be trampled down, like the filth in the street.11Muchos embelesados de la belleza de la mujer ajena se hicieron réprobos; porque su conversación quema como fuego. Many, by admiring the beauty of the wife of another, have become reprobate. For familiarity with her flares up like a fire.12Con la mujer de otro no estés jamás de asiento; ni en la mesa te arrimes a ella recostado sobre el codo; You should not sit down at all with another man’s wife, nor recline with her on a couch.13ni la desafíes en tomar vino; no sea que tu corazón se incline hacia ella, y a costa de tu vida caigas en la perdición. And you should not argue with her over wine, lest perhaps your heart may turn toward her, and by your emotion, you would be toppled into perdition.14No dejes al amigo antiguo; porque no será como él el nuevo. You should not abandon an old friend. For a new one will not be similar to him.15El amigo nuevo es un vino nuevo; se hará añejo, y le beberás con gusto. A new friend is like new wine. It will grow old, and then you will enjoy drinking it.16No envidies la gloria y las riquezas del pecador; pues no sabes cuál ha de ser su catástrofe. You should not envy the glory and wealth of a sinner. For you do not know what may be his undoing in the future.17No te agraden las violencias que cometen los hombres injustos; tú sabes que jamás en toda su vida puede agradar el impío. The injury of the unjust should not please you, knowing that, until they are in hell, the impious will not please.18Vive lejos de aquel que tiene potestad para hacerte morir, y no andarás asustado con el temor de la muerte. Keep yourself far from a man having the power to kill, and then you will not have the fear of death suspended over you.19Si te acercas a él, guárdate de hacer ninguna cosa, no sea que te quite la vida. But if you do approach him, do nothing to offend, lest perhaps he may take away your life.20Sábete que conversas con la muerte; porque caminas en medio de lazos, y andas entre las armas de gente resentida. Know that this is a communion with death. For you would be entering the midst of snares, and walking upon the arms of the grieving.21Procede con cuanta cautela puedas, con tu prójimo, y aconséjate con los sabios y prudentes. According to your ability, be cautious of your neighbor, and treat him as the wise and prudent would.22Sean tus convidados los varones justos, y tu gloria consista en temer a Dios. Let just men be your companions, and let your glory be in the fear of God.23El pensamiento de Dios esté fijo en tu alma, y sea toda tu conversación de los preceptos del Altísimo. And let the thought of God be in your mind, and let all your discourse be on the precepts of the Most High.24Las obras de los artífices son alabadas por su industria, el príncipe del pueblo por la sabiduría de sus discursos, y las palabras de los ancianos por su prudencia. Works will be praised for the hands of the artists, and a leader of the people will be praised for the wisdom of his words, yet truly, the word of the elders will be praised for its understanding.25Temible es en su ciudad el hombre deslenguado, y será aborrecido el temerario por sus palabras. A man full of words is a dread to his city, but one who speaks rashly will be hated for his word.
